Capturing Family Memories: Maternity and Newborn Sessions with The Perry Family

As a Los Angeles maternity and newborn photographer, there's a unique honor and joy that comes with capturing the precious moments of family life. Over the years, I've been fortunate to document the journey of many families in the vibrant city of LA, but one story that stands out is that of The Perry Family

A Dance Student Turned Lifelong Friend

Mallory was a dance student of mine many years ago. (If my personal photos were as organized as my client’s photos, I would have been able to pull one out of Mallory and me together from this time. But sadly mine are not!). Little did I know that our paths would intertwine in such a meaningful way beyond the dance studio. When Mallory became an expectant mother, she entrusted me with the task of capturing her maternity photos. This marked the beginning of a beautiful journey that has seen me photograph all three of her children’s maternity and newborn sessions.

The First Newborn Session: A Milestone

Mallory’s first child holds a special place in my heart. His newborn photos were among my very first, marking the beginning of my career as a Los Angeles newborn photographer. Watching him grow up alongside my evolving skills has been incredibly rewarding. It's a testament to the beauty of capturing family memories over time.

From Nervous Beginnings to Confident Parents

One of the most heartwarming aspects of my job is witnessing the transformation of first-time parents. I remember Mallory and Alex during their first maternity session. They were a bit nervous, unsure of what to expect. By the time they were expecting their third child, there was a noticeable shift. They exuded confidence, having found their stride as parents and developed their own philosophies on parenting.

Building Comfort and Trust

A significant benefit of capturing families over the years is the comfort and trust that develop. The children grow familiar with me, allowing their true personalities to shine during our sessions. This comfort is evident in the natural, candid moments I can capture—moments that truly reflect the essence of the family.

Lifestyle Newborn Sessions vs. Posed Newborn Sessions

As a Los Angeles lifestyle newborn photographer, my focus is on capturing the natural interactions and authentic moments of your family. Lifestyle newborn sessions take place in your home, where your family feels most comfortable. These sessions emphasize the love and connection between family members, capturing real-life moments that are unique to your family’s story.

In contrast, posed newborn sessions involve carefully arranged poses, often in a studio setting, with the baby placed in various props and positions. If you choose a posed newborn session, it’s crucial to ensure the photographer is trained and qualified to handle newborns safely. The well-being of your brand-new baby should always be the top priority.

Tips for Expectant Parents

  1. Embrace the Journey: Every stage of parenthood brings its own challenges and joys. Embrace the nervousness and excitement—it’s all part of the journey.

  2. Trust Your Photographer: Building a relationship with your photographer can make a significant difference. When the kids are comfortable, the photos will reflect their genuine personalities.

  3. Capture the Milestones: Don't wait for the "perfect" moment. Every stage of your child's life is precious and worth documenting, from the first days to the teenage years.

  4. Be Yourself: Authenticity is key. The best photos are the ones where you and your family are relaxed and being yourselves.

  5. Choose the Right Session: Decide whether a lifestyle or posed newborn session suits your family’s style. Ensure your photographer is experienced and prioritizes your baby’s safety.

A Lifelong Connection

The bond I’ve formed with Mallory and her family is a perfect example of why I love being a Los Angeles maternity and newborn photographer. It’s not just about taking photos; it’s about being a part of the family’s journey, capturing memories that will be cherished for generations. Each session is a new chapter in their story, and I’m honored to be the one to document it.

In the end, photography is more than just images—it's about the connections we make and the stories we tell. Through my lens, I’ve had the privilege of watching families like Mallory’s grow, and it’s a journey I wouldn’t trade for anything. If you're in Los Angeles and looking for a maternity or newborn photographer who values storytelling and genuine connections, I'd be thrilled to capture your family's unique journey.
