Culver City In-Home Newborn Session | Los Angeles Newborn Photographer
Hello Sweet Ella. You are so loved.
The immense love for their new babe was absolutely apparent from the moment I spoke to Alex and Ron during our first Facetime call.
I love to schedule a call, and I really enjoy a video call, during the inquiry process. It’s important for me to connect with my clients before they book a session, especially with a photoshoot as intimate as an in home newborn session. I like them to see me and my personality as well as have a chance to ask all the questions they can think of.
I even got the added bonus of getting a tour of Alex and Ron’s house, so I had an idea of what the light would look like at the time of our session.
Ella was 4 weeks old when we had that initial call and I was honored to meet her a mere one week later.
I often get the question asked, “When is the best time to take newborn photos?” My answer to this is, whenever it makes sense for you. When I was pregnant with my daughter and even in the first few weeks after she was born, I wasn’t thinking about professional photos, I was just trying to figure out this new life I was in. Then I saw how much she was changing and I knew I wanted this time documented with more than just my iPhone.
There are a couple of elements to consider when scheduling your newborn session. Before the two month marker babes tend to have a little more predictable sleep pattern and like to be swaddled a little tighter for those sweet in crib shots. An older infant may be more awake for the session and also have some more smiles and facial expressions figured out. The timing is really up to what you are hoping to capture in your images.
A lifestyle session is a beautiful way to have a casual photos shoot. I am not trying to pose your little one in baskets or flowerpots, I am taking more of a documentary approach to life with a newborn.
When I arrived to Alex and Ron’s house, the sweet sounds of Otis Redding and the Beatles were playing quietly in the background. The energy in the house was warm, sweet and welcoming.
All throughout the session there were tender touches and little kisses were exchanged between the family.
The ease and the care Alex and and Ron had with each other and in the seat of new parenthood was breathtaking.
When I asked about what they were most excited about becoming parents Ron said, “I just always wanted to be a dad. It's the greatest work of art there is, the only true creation.” I can feel that watching him not only with his daughter, but with how he cherishes Alex.
Some of my favorite things during our initial conversation was that Alex had gone through my INSTAGRAM PAGE and pulled images that she was drawn to. She didn’t find them on someone else’s page for me to recreate, she loved what I was already doing with my clients. (This is the most important aspect of picking a photographer in my opinion.) She had seen some of the through the window sessions I had done during the social distancing during the Covid 19 pandemic. We made sure to capture some through their windows too.
Alex, Ron and Ella thank you for spending such a beautiful afternoon with me.
